For our chapter 1 lesson we worked on guided learning by doing a History of Computers exercise and also worked on tutorials for GCF/Mac. For the Hisory of computer exercise we clicked through a powerpoint presentation with information about the history of computers, someslides also had links to other sites that had more information about what was being discussed on that particular slide. At the end we took a quiz to see how much we had learned.
From this we learned that guided learning is learning that takes place someowhat independently , it is done at ones own pace but with a previously set up peremeter or guide to help along the way and assure the studednt is learning what is intended to be taught. For the tutorials we did something similar but the presentation was not in power point it was on a website. Each individual section of the tutorial could be clicked to take you the the page corresponding to the title. On those pages was inpormation about the topic and a video also explaining and giving information about the topic being discussed. A tutorial is learning tool that helps show the viewer how something is done or used.
This type of learning can have both pros and cons. Some pors to this is that this may be easier for someone who does not do well in the classroom setting and like to do things more at their own pace. At the same time if videos are too long or their is to much information on one page it may be overwhelming for some students to do and they may prefer having a teacher who they can ask questions.
